THE SQUARE
The seed is planted and Ray, fearing he will lose his love, engineers the plan. Hiring a professional arsonist becomes a fatal error, and the plan goes horribly wrong. Alarm bells sound and suspicions are raised, but miraculously, the dust looks to settle. After all...Nobody knows. Then the first blackmail note arrives. The couple's nerves are tested as both Carla's husband and the mystery author threaten to throw open their secret. With the blackmailer's deadline approaching they are going to find out just how far they are willing to go for love.
THE SQUARE is the first feature film from Australian stuntman-turned-director Nash Edgerton and his brother Joel (who co-wrote and stars in the film). Joel Edgerton recently starred in "A Streetcar Named Desire" opposite Cate Blanchett in Sydney and at BAM in New York City and is currently in production on "The Thing", a prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 film. Nash Edgerton recently coordinated the stunts for Sofia Coppola's upcoming "Somewhere" and James Mangold's upcoming "Knight and Day" starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
THE SQUARE is produced by Nash Edgerton, Joel Edgerton and Matthew Dabner and stars David Roberts, Claire van der Bloom, Anthony Hayes and Joel Edgerton. THE SQUARE has a Running Time of 105 minutes, and is
not yet rated. The film opens on Friday, April 9 in LA and NY, followed by a nationwide release throughout April and May.
Mark's deep understanding and appreciation of South African music, jazz, electronica and modern classical music has formed a musical style which has been described as rhythmically sophisticated, evocative and driving, while retaining a raw emotional simplicity that draws on the creative use of everyday sound.
Mark Kilian was born in Benoni, South Africa. He studied piano and guitar at school, and then continued his studies at the University of Natal in Durban under Professor Darius Brubeck. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance (cum laude and Dean's commendation) in 1990, he continued his studies in Natal working on his thesis, "The relationship between music and sound effects in contemporary popular Hollywood film." A synopsis of this thesis was published in the Society of Composers and Lyricists publication, "The Score," in Los Angeles. He graduated with a Master of Music degree in composition in 1994.
His current project is LA MISSION. Peter and Benjamin Bratt's 'La Mission' premiered at Sundance in 2009 and will be in theaters in the US in April 2010. Set in the mission district in San Francisco, it is the haunting story of healing and transformation: the healing of a broken man, of a Father's relationship with his son, and of a neighborhood struggling to break the chains of violence.
