This page will list links to clubs in the Los Angeles area where you can enjoy live jazz. We will also include links to sites in other cities since The Jazz Journey is an international flight.
www.jazzbakery.org - One of the area's best clubs, The Jazz Bakery is known for its top-notch performances seven nights a week. And, on weekends, you can often catch matinees that are very popular. The Jazz Bakery is one of my most favorite clubs because it's a no-frills environment, meaning the focus is on the performers/music. An intimate locale, it also has excellent acoustics.
www.uclalive.org - UCLA-LIVE is truly one of the best, most well-rounded performance series in the area. The 2008 - 2009 season will be announced on June 4, 2008. The 2007 - 2008 season included outstanding performances by artists such as Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett Trio, San Francisco Jazz Collective (Stefon Harris, Joe Lovano, Miguel Zenon and others), Dianne Reeves, Monterey Jazz Festival Touring Band (James Moody, Terence Blanchard and others), Hugh Masekela, and countless other performances outside the jazz idiom. My question is, "How in the hell are they going to top that?" The reality is, I know they will find a way. I will attend the June 4th 2008 - 2009 season announcement, so if you want to find out who's coming, be sure to visit my blog on June 5th.
